The Role:
The primary purpose of this position is to Lead the development, verification and validation of innovative concepts, new product designs, and increase their readiness level before introducing them in production as part of the Mechanical Engineering function group. This role requires an experienced, confident, enthusiastic, determined, and organised individual who is keen to develop his / her career in a versatile environment.

Key Accountabilities:

Lead the development of mechanical systems and products by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials engineering.
Hold reviews with Design Engineering to organise drawings and CAD models maturation.
Plan and Run risk assessment and mitigation activities by means of, but not limited to, design reviews, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis and Prevention to enable robust engineering.
Build and Implement appropriate validation and verification testing plans to prove part and system performance and quality.
Organise the engineering activities leading to the introduction of engineering changes and give appropriate reporting (e.g. ETRS) to the Project Management.
Ensure adequate interactions with Manufacturing Engineering to optimise design for assembly and support production during product assembly.
Promote inclusive cross-functional work alongside other departments: Procurement, Quality Engineering… to develop optimised solutions to Engineering Sign-Off
Write technical reports on failure modes and mechanisms, interpreting from literature, test data, post-test analysis (PTA) reports, CAE analyses and materials analyses.
Organise problem resolution tasks including support of post-test analysis activity and Develop countermeasures using Quality Management System tools, e.g. 8D.
What a great candidate looks like....
The successful candidate will have excellent technical and communication skills, taking a pivotal role in solving improving and verifying product designs. They will have a flair for structuring information and an attention to detail. They will also have a strong delivery focus, using their technical knowledge and mechanical engineering tools to ensure that designs meet requirements and to minimise risk.

Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent higher-level engineering qualification.
Minimum 4 years' experience related to the above accountabilities; experience in the automotive, aerospace, power generation or white-goods sectors would be an advantage.
Very good understanding of design risk analysis and mitigation tools such as DFMEA and when to use them appropriately.
Knowledge of materials engineering, heat transfer, thermodynamics, mechanics, hydraulics, and test engineering.
Experience with a 3D CAD program, ideally Creo, a product data management tool, DDM preferred, and excellent Geometry Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards such as BS 8888.
Proficient with small batch and series production manufacturing and assembly processes.
Familiarity with agile project management techniques such as Scrum.
