What is Soarno L?

Soarnol™ is an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer developed by Mitsubishi Chemical's own technology. It has high gas barrier properties, oil resistance and high transparency derived from vinyl alcohol structure as well as moisture resistance and extrudability comes from ethylene unit. Additionally, Soarnol consists of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen so no harmful gases are generated when it is incinerated, and its combustion heat is half that of polyethylene.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will ensure the proper functioning, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems within the MCUK site, whilst ensuring compliance with our site safety standards, and contributing to the overall success of MC UK operations.

Duties include:
Equipment Maintenance: Conducting routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of various mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, valves, and other machinery to ensure they operate efficiently and safely. Repairs and Troubleshooting: Identifying and addressing mechanical issues promptly to minimise downtime. This will involve diagnosing and repairing faults, replacing defective parts, and conducting tests to ensure proper functionality, primarily on rotating equipment such a pump rebuilds.
Compliance with Safety Standards: Adhering to site safety protocols and standards to ensure the safe operation of equipment. This includes understanding and implementing safety procedures, using personal protective equipment, and participating in safety training. Collaboration with Other Teams: Working closely with other technicians, Engineers, and operations personnel to coordinate maintenance activities, share information about equipment performance, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the plant. Documentation : Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs. This documentation is crucial for tracking the condition of equipment, scheduling future maintenance, and complying with regulatory requirements. Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for efficiency and reliability improvements and contributing to the development and implementation of maintenance best practices. This may involve suggesting upgrades, modifications, or changes to existing equipment to enhance reliability and performance. Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as equipment failures, and taking appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and the environment, this may mean being available for abnormal working hours or emergency call out on occasion. Computer access: Use computer-based maintenance management systems, such as Maximo, and support future system developments. Training: Undertake training as identified by the Mechanical Supervisor/Maintenance Engineer as necessary to maximise performance.
Additional: Carry out additional tasks as directed by the Mechanical Supervisor and / or Maintenance Engineer.

Special Working Conditions: Be available for abnormal working hours and emergency call out- not mandatory but desirable.

What we are looking for: Education: Technical education, such as a certificate, diploma, or degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, is often preferred, but Minimum NVQ 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar supporting role within the petrochemical / chemical process industries, other candidates from top tier COMAH/heavy industry sites considered. Practical experience in maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. Familiarity with relevant tools and equipment. Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Strong understanding of rotating equipment Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Proficiency in using hand tools and diagnostic equipment. Vibration analysis (Cat1/2) – Desirable
Condition monitoring – Desirable Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. Communication: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment.
