This role exists to find and report on the stories and issues which matter to our readers in a way which ensures as many people as possible find, discover and respond to our work, helping us to have a positive impact on the local communities we serve. This role is based at our offices in Hull, a busy, vibrant news patch and former UK City of Culture. Our coverage extends across East Yorkshire, home to the beautiful Wolds, stunning beaches and market towns including Beverley. This role has the ability to be flexible, we are open to candidates that are looking for full time, part time, condensed or reduced hours. What will the role involve? Find and tell stories about local communities which engages as many readers as possible, or stories which will be of interest to local communities Build communities online and in real life to share stories with once published, and engaged with readers about those stories Tell stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) real-time live blogs, article format, video, audio and pictures Ensure every piece of content is thoroughly researched and balanced prior to publication, in accordance with the Editor's Code of practice This role includes weekend working, this will typically involve 1 weekend in every 3 Who are we looking for? A Reach PLC or equivalent senior journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience) Experience of content management Ability to lead, motivate and develop content teams Understanding of editorial strategy and brand values Strong storytelling skills Good digital publishing skills - or a willingness to learn An understanding of social media both in terms of finding content and sharing it An understanding of how to use analytics to inform content commissioning and production - or a willingness to learnFirst-class organisational skills Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written Ability to present in conference Adaptable, flexible, creative and full of flair A positive, can-do attitude Ability to work well as part of a team Ability to work quickly and effectively under deadline pressure Good judgement Energy, drive, determination and self-motivation Flexible approach to shifts Excellent attention to detail Ability to take instruction as well as manage own workload efficiently What can we offer you?
