Working as part of the Wind Tunnel Operations group, you will undertake a range of projects and activities to support and enhance the wind tunnel testing process. The requirements of the role are to help the group achieve the following: Support routine operation of wind tunnel testing, leading model installations and providing on-site and remote support of model and tunnel systems and the testing process; Use data analysis to find solutions to mechanical and structural challenges in a range of test environments; Develop wind tunnel testing technology, methods and procedures; Help design and develop model systems to add capability and improve efficiency of testing; Work with sensitive instrumentation to ensure accuracy and repeatability of results; Use and evolve R&D test equipment, making use of the latest technologies. The successful candidate should be able to show knowledge of the theoretical and practical workings of a modern automotive wind tunnel. They must have an in-depth understanding of the physics and mechanics of the unit under test and be able to demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in this area. The role demands a good understanding of engineering principles in the following areas: Mechanical calculations (force and position resolution); Motion control systems, Kinematics and Simulation; Materials and structures. Strong mathematics, physics and IT skills are essential, and experience of Pi Diablo and Toolbox, Catia, Matlab / Simulink, and Labview would be an advantage. As the group supports a 24-hour wind tunnel test program, the role demands a flexible approach to working hours including weekends. The role will be based at the Silverstone Factory however there may be a requirement to travel as and when requested to meet the requirements of the Company. This job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies the level of responsibility at which the post holder will be required to work. Subject to the discretion of the Company, the post holder will carry out the duties specified above together with such other duties or tasks for the Company as reasonably required. You may also be required to perform additional duties for the Company from time to time commensurate with your skills and experience.
