Overview
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This is a 12 month fixed term post.

Role
The post offers 10 programmed activities. Additional programmed activities may be available, but these are subject to annual discussion and agreement and do not form part of the underlying contractual agreement.
The post holder will be expected to have an ATSM/SITM in gynaecological oncology, at a minimum, and take up the role of deputy lead for this service.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.
Main duties of the job
To provide leadership as the deputy lead for the gynaecological oncology service at Milton Keynes University Hospital
To participate in Consultant Labour Ward and emergency gynaecology cover and on-call as per the rota
The successful candidate will be expected to be motivated and committed to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education
About us
There are 14 Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 5 Specialist Trainees and 11 Trust Doctors at registrar level. There is a 2 tier registrar rota during the day and night. The approximate number of births is around 4000.
There will be 1 in 13 on-call rota commitments including Labour Ward hot week (1 in 13) and an Emergency Gynae hot week (1 in 15, AM session only).

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will have good general obstetrics and gynaecology skills. The post holder will be expected to have an ATSM/SITM in gynaecological oncology, at a minimum, and take up the role of deputy lead for this service.
There will be 1 in 13 on-call rota commitments including Labour Ward hot week (8.00-18.00 hours) (1 in 13) and an Emergency Gynae hot week (8.00-13.00 hours) (1 in 15, AM session only).

Person Specification
Qualifications/Registrations
Full GMC registration
ATSM/SITM in Gynaecological oncology
Further Higher Degree
Sub-speciality training in Gynaecological oncology
Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Experience/training
Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent that required for a UK CCST
Previous experience of working within a gynaecological oncology team/centre
Knowledge
Appropriate level of clinical knowledge
Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice
Understanding of clinical risk management and governance
IT Skills
Breadth of experience within and outside speciality
Clinical Skill
Clinical skills and experience to undertake a consultant post in NHS
Previous experience working within a gynaecological oncology team/centre
Communication Skills and Teaching
Good written and verbal communication skills
Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
Evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Ability to work constructively in a team environment
Ability to gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and patients
A proven background in organising and delivering undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and research with evidence of training for the role is highly desirable
A qualification in Medical Education, such as a Diploma
Leadership Skills
To motivate and develop both medical staff and non-medical staff
Ability to identify and implement service development and change
Interest in Medical management
Other Requirements
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
To balance individual requirements against those of the Division and Trust as a whole
Ability and desire to take part in Clinical Directorate management
